REQUESTING
THE DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATIVE DATA TO ATTACH A LINK TO THE WRITTEN TEXT OF THE
RHODE ISLAND CHARTER OF 1663 THROUGH THE
GENERAL
ASSEMBLY WEBSITE

WHEREAS,
The true value of history lies in what it tells us about the world in which we
live;
and
WHEREAS,
All aspects of our existence are products of much longer periods of
development,
and their continuity and change remain only dimly evident to us until we begin
to
learn
something about the past; and
WHEREAS,
Historical documents provide us with descriptions and analyses of the past
which
will oftentimes assist us in understanding the present; and
WHEREAS,
The Rhode Island Royal Charter of 1663 is just such a document. It
provides
the people of Rhode Island with an historical record of our forefather's
intentions and
insights.
This significant component of our past should be made accessible to the people
of Rhode
Island;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby requests that the director of Legislative Data create a link
on the
Rhode
Island General Assembly website to the written text of the Rhode Island Royal
Charter of
1663;
and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Director of Legislative Data.
