PROCLAIMING MAY 7, 2002 AS "NATIONAL TEACHER DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Teachers open children's minds to the magic of ideas and knowledge. They encourage and guide our young people to
dream and explore the myriad of opportunities in learning; and
WHEREAS,
Teachers keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good
citizenship, lifelong learning and bright futures; and
WHEREAS,
Today's teacher fills many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models,
motivators and mentors. They instill
wisdom, inspire creativity and shape our future leaders; and
WHEREAS,
Teachers continue to influence us long after our school days are only memories;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby
proclaims May 7, 2002 as "National Teacher Day" in the State of Rhode
Island. With praise and gratitude, we
acknowledge the impact and lasting contributions teachers have made on our
lives; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mary Ann Kaveny, President
of the Pawtucket Teachers' Alliance.
