WHEREAS, Cox
Cable is the fifth largest cable provider in the country with 6.2 million
customers; and
WHEREAS, In
Rhode Island, Cox Cable has 297,000 customers, about ninety-six percent
(96%) of all cable subscribers in the
state; and
WHEREAS, Cox
Cable can indiscriminately raise their rates, and, in fact, have recently
passed a fifteen percent (15%) increase to their customers in selected areas of
the state; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence
Plantations hereby memorializes Congress to enact legislation which gives
authority to individual states to regulate the cable industry; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the entire Rhode Island
Congressional Delegation to the Congress of the United States.
