YORK DURING THE BLIZZARD AND URGING INVESTIGATION AND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Law enforcement officers serve their communities with courage and |
2 | dedication, often at great personal risk, to ensure public safety; and |
3 | WHEREAS, During the recent blizzard in New York, reports indicate that police officers |
4 | were assaulted while performing their duties in hazardous conditions; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Acts of violence against law enforcement officers undermine public safety, |
6 | threaten the rule of law, and cannot be tolerated in a democratic society; and |
7 | WHEREAS, It is essential that those responsible for such assaults are held accountable |
8 | under the law to preserve public trust and uphold justice; now, therefore, be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island condemns the assaults on |
10 | police officers in New York during the recent blizzard, and expresses unwavering support for law |
11 | enforcement officers who risk their lives to protect the public; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That this Senate urges the Mayor of New York City and the appropriate |
13 | law enforcement authorities to conduct a full and thorough investigation into these incidents, and |
14 | to pursue charges and justice where appropriate; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Mayor of New York City and the New York |
