CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE | |
PASSING OF CARRIGAN MCCORRIE-RAINE NELSON | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Carrigan |
2 | McCorrie-Raine Nelson, the beloved daughter of Tammy and Paul Nelson, a devoted sister, niece |
3 | and cousin, and a fierce supporter of myriad charitable causes and childhood cancer awareness; |
4 | and |
5 | WHEREAS, Carrigan courageously fought a seven-year battle with Osteosarcoma, which |
6 | for some people, may well have limited their joy for life or their ambitions, but not so for |
7 | Carrigan. With a strength that belied her youth, and the optimism of a pure heart, she fought her |
8 | cancer the same way she lived her life, with gusto, positivity, and courage; and |
9 | WHEREAS, A truly gifted musician, Carrigan attended the Bristol Music Academy, |
10 | where she studied voice, piano, and music, and in 2019, she graduated from the MMVS |
11 | Contemporary Recording Artists Program; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Never holding back on her goals, Carrigan employed her musical talents, |
13 | volunteering and performing at many local and national venues, entertaining and supporting |
14 | altruistic endeavors and awareness for childhood cancers; and |
15 | WHEREAS, During her all too short time on this earth, Carrigan had earned a blackbelt |
16 | and was a gold medalist in Taekwondo, and was honored with a panoply of distinctions |
17 | including, singing the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon, |
18 | Beach Idol Winner, Celebration of Music Producer's Choice Winner, Newport NAACP Role |
19 | Model of the Year, Newport Daily News Youth Leader Award, RI's Honorary Miss Outstanding |

1 | Teen, and the 2025 RI Communities Choice "Person of the Year” Award, to name but a few of |
2 | her outstanding achievements; and |
3 | WHEREAS, In 2025, Carrigan was recognized with the 2025 RI Communities Choice |
4 | "Person of the Year” Award, and her hometown and the State Legislature proclaimed, “Cancer |
5 | Warrior Day” and “Carrigan Nelson Day” in her honor; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In addition to her parents and brother, Carrigan leaves behind her musical |
7 | partner, Steve Rodrigues, Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Rodney, her cousin, Warren Moniz, and her |
8 | extended family, Mr. Toffee and Malibu, her loving dachshunds, her partner and childhood |
9 | friend, Aidan McDonald, her dear friends, Hannah Nasser, Deaven Piermont, Madison Quinn, |
10 | Shelby Matthews, Mary Jane (MJ) Milici, and countless close friends, chosen family, and a |
11 | legion of admirers; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Carrigan’s talents were abundant, her warm and caring demeanor made her |
13 | a joy to be around, and her determination in the face of adversity was inspirational. She enriched |
14 | the lives of all who knew her and she is dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
15 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses deepest |
16 | sympathy on the passing of Carrigan McCorrie-Raine Nelson; and be it further |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
18 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Tammy and Paul Nelson. |
