CELEBRATING "NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK" ON MAY 11TH THROUGH MAY 17TH, | |
2025, IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, National Hospital Day was set aside in honor of Florence Nightingale, the |
2 | woman who made nursing a respectable profession and who revolutionized the way hospitals |
3 | were run. The May 12th observance was expanded to a week-long event in 1953, in order that |
4 | hospitals could use it to plan and implement more extensive public information programs, and is |
5 | currently sponsored by the American Hospital Association; and |
6 | WHEREAS, National Hospital Week 2025 celebrates hospitals, health systems, and the |
7 | women and men who support the health and well-being of their communities through dedication |
8 | and care from the heart; and |
9 | WHEREAS, America's Hospitals and healthcare systems deliver 3.6 million babies, |
10 | employ 7.4 million people, and provide emergency care to 155 million people across the country; |
11 | and |
12 | WHEREAS, Hospitals in Rhode Island have generated more than 60,000 jobs and |
13 | contributed $11.7 billion in total economic output, and $779.3 million in state and local tax |
14 | revenue resulting in a significant impact on both community health and the economy at large in |
15 | 2024; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Providing everything from emergency care, labor and delivery, minor |
17 | surgery and specialized care, hospitals big and small fill a vital need in our communities and |
18 | every nurse, doctor, practitioner and staff member are essential in the compassionate delivery of |
19 | these much needed quality services; and |

1 | WHEREAS, National Hospital Week is a time to raise awareness of the importance of |
2 | hospitals and health systems and to highlight the critical role hospitals and healthcare |
3 | professionals have in our local communities; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes May 11th |
5 | through May 17th as "National Hospital Week" and acknowledges and thanks Rhode Island's |
6 | healthcare professionals for working diligently to provide countless men, women, and families |
7 | with quality health services and for building a brighter tomorrow for future generations; and be it |
8 | further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Howard Dulude, Interim President of the |
11 | Hospital Association of Rhode Island. |
