RELATING TO FISH AND WILDLIFE -- LICENSING

     

     Introduced By: Senators Sosnowski, Britto, DiMario, Murray, and McKenney

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 20-2 of the General Laws entitled "Licensing" is hereby amended by

adding thereto the following section:

     20-2-46. Green crab harvest and license.

     (a) Any person may take the aquatic nuisance species commonly known as green crabs,

5

more specifically known as the species carcinis maenas; provided that, such person does the

6

following:

7

     (1) Gives written notice to such effect to the director;

8

     (2) Marks all traps, gear and buoys in a uniform manner in accordance with requirements

9

set forth by the director; and

10

     (3) Files an annual report with the director setting forth the approximate number of bushels

11

of green crabs taken each month of the year and whether such crabs were destroyed or used for bait

12

purposes in the state.

     (b) Rhode Island residents may be granted a commercial green crab license for a fee of ten

14

dollars ($10.00) per season.

     (c) Any person subject to the provisions of this section shall comply with regulations which

16

the director is hereby authorized to promulgate from time to time.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize the taking of green crabs subject to certain conditions and a

license fee of ten dollars ($10.00).

     This act would take effect upon passage.
