EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF DAVID E. POTTS | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate of the State of Rhode Island has |
2 | learned of the passing of David E. Potts. He was the devoted husband of Cheryl A. Potts for 55 |
3 | years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, David E. Potts was born in Providence, a son of the late Robert and Ethel |
5 | Potts. Mr. Potts graduated from East Providence High School and served our nation with honor |
6 | and distinction as a member of the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam |
7 | War; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Potts was a hard-working man who strove tirelessly every day to |
9 | provide for his family and loved ones. His successful and varied business career included |
10 | working for Sysco in a sales position for 25 years, in restaurant management for Lee Zachary's in |
11 | Vermont, serving as a Deli Associate at Dave's Marketplace in Cumberland and was the owner of |
12 | Chipman's Corner Deli; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Potts was a devoted family man who easily made friends everywhere he |
14 | went thanks to his cheerful personality, great sense of humor and the caring and compassionate |
15 | demeanor he exhibited with everyone he met. In his free time, Mr. Potts was an avid and skillful |
16 | pool player and was a long-time member of the “Old School Rules” pool league at East |
17 | Providence Lanes; and |
18 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Cheryl, Mr. Potts leaves behind his children, David |
19 | E. Potts, Jr., and his wife, Angela, Stacy E. Potts, and her husband, Jeff Baker, Kaitlyn S. Potts |
20 | and her fiancé David Johnson, and his grandchildren, David E. Potts, III, Paul H. Potts, Maureen |

2 | and Benjamin J. Baker. Mr. Potts also leaves behind his brother, Robert A. Potts, and his wife, |
3 | Eunice, his sister Barbara A. Guzulaitis, and his brother-in-law Charles D. Moreira. Mr. Potts also |
4 | leaves behind several nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. Mr. Potts was predeceased by |
5 | his parents, mother-in-law Elsie Moreira, his grandson, Alexander C. Baker, his siblings Nancy |
6 | M. Daveau and John F. Potts, nephews Andrew G. Guzulaitis and Roger J. Daveau, and niece |
7 | Susan E. Potts; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest |
9 | condolences to the Potts Family on the passing of David E. Potts; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Cheryl A. Potts and Family. |
