S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE BARBARA

ANN CAPALBO

     WHEREAS, it is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of the

2

Honorable Barbara Ann Capalbo of Ashaway. She was the beloved wife of William Capalbo; and

3

     WHEREAS, Barbara Ann Capalbo was born in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of the

4

late Eleanor and Stanley Kristiansen. Mrs. Capalbo had a long and distinguished career within the

5

arts community and was a well-respected manager of ballet and opera performances, and lighting

6

theater productions. She also taught lighting design at the Rhode Island School of Design for

7

more than twenty years; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Capalbo also had a distinguished public service career during which

9

she served her community and constituents with tireless devotion and abiding integrity. She

10

served on the Hopkinton Town Council for fourteen years and was a member of the South County

11

Tourism Board, the Board of Directors for the Hopkinton Historical Association, and the Board

12

of Directors at Oak Grove Cemetery; and

13

     WHEREAS, In her free time, Barbara Ann Capalbo enjoyed cooking and hosting family

14

and friends. She especially treasured preparing Thanksgiving meals for her family and loved

15

ones. Mrs. Capalbo was also a woman of deep faith and was an active member of Christ Church;

16

and

17

     WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, William, she leaves behind her children, John

18

Smith, III, Brendan Smith and his wife, Mary, Christian Smith, Marna McMillan and her

19

husband, Scott, and Amy Ralph and her husband Damon, along with her nine grandchildren,

Severin, Eleanor, Lillian, and Micah Smith, and Logan, Madeline, Wade, Kaylee and Mack

2

McMillan and her sister Janet Clausen and her husband, Jim. She also leaves behind many nieces

3

and nephews. Barbara Ann Capalbo was predeceased by her two siblings, Stephen Kristiansen

4

and Bruce Kristiansen; now, therefore be it

5

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its

6

condolences to the Capalbo Family on the passing of the Honorable Barbara Ann Capalbo; and be

7

it further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to William Capalbo and Family.
