EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF DANIEL A. SPAIGHT, JR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Daniel |
2 | A. Spaight, Jr., of East Providence. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline Spaight for more |
3 | than 66 years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Daniel Spaight, Jr., was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Daniel and |
5 | Gladys Spaight. Mr. Spaight was a devoted public servant who had a long and distinguished |
6 | career as a teacher in the East Providence School Department, and as the Vice Principal of |
7 | Central Vocational High School in Providence. Mr. Spaight also served with distinction working |
8 | for the Rhode Island Department of Education, as an advisor on Vocational Education to the State |
9 | Board of Regents, and in retirement, taught for several years at Johnson & Wales University; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Spaight enjoyed golfing and was a lifelong member of |
11 | Segregansett Country Club in Taunton. He also enjoyed swimming, and served as a lifeguard, |
12 | coach, official, referee and starter. In 2007, Mr. Spaight was inducted into the Rhode Island |
13 | Aquatic Hall of Fame. Mr. Spaight was also an active member of the East Providence Democratic |
14 | City Committee; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Daniel Spaight was a man of deep faith who believed deeply in the value of |
16 | serving others and was moved by his faith to make his community a better place in which to live. |
17 | He was an active member of St. Martha’s Parish, where he was one of the original parishioners, |
18 | and served as a lector and a member of the Finance Council; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, Mr. Spaight leaves behind his children |
20 | Linda Spaight, Susan Torres and Thomas Spaight as well as his grandchildren, Samantha, |

1 | Kaleigh, Emily, Ally, Jack, Lillian and Rosemary. Mr. Spaight was the brother of Russell Spaight |
2 | and the late Leo Spaight, Frances Spaight and Barbara Robillard. He also leaves behind many |
3 | nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its |
5 | condolences to the Spaight Family on the passing of Daniel A. Spaight, Jr., and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jacqueline Spaight. |
