WHEREAS, Brother Kevin Cawley arrived at Bishop Hendricken in the summer of 1994 to serve as both the President and Principal after serving in several leadership posts at schools including Iona College, Bergen Catholic High School, and Power Memorial Academy; and
WHEREAS, From New York, Brother Cawley traveled to Rhode Island knowing of the good work of Bishop Hendricken and prepared to make a mark on the campus life. During his tenure, Brother Cawley was responsible for many school improvements, most importantly, the development and implementation of the school's strategic plan, Hendricken 2020. This plan proposed a number of significant changes in the school including a $1 million Capital Campaign, Lighting the Way -- An Investment in the Future, to establish an Endowment Fund at Hendricken; and
WHEREAS, Also completed was the physical expansion of the campus with the construction of a classroom wing and an additional health and physical education facility. Brother Cawley has also accomplished an increase in student enrollment by 35 percent and an invigoration of the Christian Service Learning Program, a community outreach experience. Most significantly, Brother Cawley's role as the spiritual leader of the school has provided an opportunity for each student, parent, faculty and staff member to strive to become "his/her best self "; and
WHEREAS, Brother Cawley is a member of many professional associations including:
The National Catholic Educational Association;
The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development;
The National Association for Secondary School Principals;
The Rhode Island Association of School Principals; and
WHEREAS, Brother Cawley has many years of teaching experience including being a teacher at Bergen Catholic High School and Power Memorial in New York, Adjunct Assistant Professor and Director of Developmental Education at Iona College, Adjunct Assistant Professor of English and Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President and Director of Yonkers Campus at Iona College, Assistant Professor of Education at Iona College, and currently President/Principal of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations congratulates Brother Kevin Cawley for his leadership, and we wish Brother Cawley well at his new position to the Province Leadership Team for the Eastern Amercian Province of the Christian Brothers. His new duties are full time ministry to the Brothers in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, and Peru in South America; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Brother Kevin Cawley.
