S E N A T E    R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING BOB TASCA FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND EXTENDING APPRECIATION TO HIM FOR ALLOWING THE CHILDREN OF SCITUATE, RHODE ISLAND TO USE HIS PROPERTY FOR YOUTH SPORTING EVENTS

WHEREAS, The name Bob Tasca is synonymous with quality and success in Southeastern New England, where the celebrated Chairman of the Board of Tasca Lincoln-Mercury is known for his business, personal, and community achievements; and

WHEREAS, The foundation of the world renowned Tasca auto empire was established in a family backyard, when 6 year old Bob Tasca first assisted his uncle in overhauling an automobile. His automotive career was launched with a 40-cent-an-hour job as a mechanic, which fed his dreams of establishing his own dealership. His dream was realized and quickly dashed in the 1950's when he opened his first Ford outlet in Bristol, Rhode Island, and then saw the location destroyed months later by Hurricane Carol; and

WHEREAS, In a move that showcased the spirit and perseverance for which he is known, Bob Tasca picked up the pieces and relocated his business to East Providence. Within a decade he built the second largest dealership in the nation, earned a reputation for quality and consumer value, and captured the attention of the Ford Motor Company; and

WHEREAS, In 1971, the Ford Motor company presented Bob Tasca with one of his greatest challenges when the corporation asked him to take over an unwanted Lincoln-Mercury store in Seekonk, Massachusetts. With the help of his sons, he transformed Tasca into a family business and achieved one of his greatest business triumphs, and highest ranked dealership for customer satisfaction and standards among the highest volume dealerships in the Ford World. In 1994, the Tasca family acquired the original Tasca dealership at 771 Taunton Avenue in East Providence, and the City of Cranston now looks forward to the day when the Tasca family business is relocated within its borders; and

WHEREAS, Bob Tasca has shared the wisdom, knowledge and business acumen he has developed over the years through his service as a respected quality consultant to Ford Motor Company worldwide and as the author of a successful book You Will Be Satisfied. His book is now used as textbook in over 75 colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, Bob Tasca's successes extend beyond the world of car dealerships. He has earned doctorates in engineering and marketing, has an engineering seat at Brown University, and holds a visiting professorship at Johnson & Wales University. He is the breeder champion German Shepherd dogs, and serves as a frequent guest on radio talk shows; and

WHEREAS, Bob Tasca's service to the community is a legendary as his success in the automotive industry. He is a frequent speaker for organizations such as the lions and rotary clubs; he serves on the Providence College President's Council; he spent four years serving on the Bishop's Cabinet, and he sits on the Finance and School Committees of St. Rocco's Parish in Johnston; and

WHEREAS, To the children of Scituate, Rhode Island, Bob Tasca is known as the owner of land used for youth sporting events for almost three decades. He is fondly regarded by Scituate children, parents, and officials for his generosity and support of local athletics; and now, be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby honors Bob Tasca for his many accomplishments and extends its deepest appreciation to him for allowing the children of Scituate, Rhode Island to use his property for athletic events and activities; and further, be it

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Bob Tasca.
