CONGRATULATING W. PATRICK MCQUEENEY ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 25 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, On February 23, 1973, Walter Patrick McQueeney was sworn in as a Rhode Island State Police Officer and assigned to the Portsmouth barracks; and

WHEREAS, In March 1987, he was selected as a member of the new Commercial Enforcement Unit a.k.a. Truck Squad. In December 1990, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and was named Commander of the same Commercial Enforcement Unit; and

WHEREAS, Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 1993, he was named Officer in Charge of the Traffic Services Office. He held that position until April, 1994 when he assumed the position of Acting Division Commander. In August of the same year, he was promoted to Captain/Division "A" Commander, remaining at that position until now; and

WHEREAS, Amongst his numerous accomplishments are: University of Rhode Island/Management And Command School, Incident Command School, Rhode Island Code of Ethics Seminar, NESPAC Command Staff Training, Workshop in Community Management, Rhode Island State Police Ethics Workshop, NESPAC Administrators' Training Conference, National Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Course, Hazardous Materials Compliance/Enforcement Course, Advanced Hazardous Waste Investigators Course, Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Intervention Seminar, Standardized Field Sobriety School, Standardized Field Sobriety Instructors; Certification, Rhode Island Traffic Commission, Rhode Island Incident Management Task Force, Rhode Island Emergency Response Commission, I-95 Corridor Coalition, Rhode Island Terrorist Response Committee, and Rhode Island Elderly Care And Safety Committee, several department commendations, and three Governor citations; and

WHEREAS, He is a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Roger Williams University with an Associates and Bachelors Degree in Administration of Justice. He was a member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard, serving with the 115th Military Police and the 243rd Security Police; and

WHEREAS, He is married to the Love of his Life Joan (Mara) McQueeney and has two lovely children, Michelle a sophomore at Georgetown University and Shawn, a freshman at Fairfield University; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates W. Patrick McQueeney on his retirement from the Rhode Island State Police. We wish him many years of health and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to W. Patrick McQueeney.
