WHEREAS, A dedicated, innovative educator and administrator since 1955, Arthur Elmasian has distinguished himself throughout his career in education, and his leadership as Principal of East Providence Senior High School, since assuming the position in 1979, has clearly been exemplary. He has truly earned the admiration of his colleagues, and the gratitude and respect of all of the children he guided for over four decades; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 4, 1932, a son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Ohenessian) Elmasian, Arthur Elmasian, a 1949 graduate of East Providence Senior High School, went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Mathematics from Providence College in 1953, and a Master's Degree in Education from Bridgewater University in 1967; and
WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1953 to 1955, Arthur Elmasian began his long and illustrious career in education at Central Junior High School, where he was a Mathematics Teacher from 1955 to 1970; and
WHEREAS, The Mathematics Coordinator at Central Junior High School from 1967 to 1970, Arthur Elmasian also served as the Varsity Baseball Coach from 1966 to 1970. Vice Principal of Central Junior High School from 1970 to 1979, Mr. Elmasian's dedication to excellence and superb qualifies of leadership led to his becoming Secondary Summer School Principal and Senior High School Principal, serving in both capacities from 1979 to the present; and
WHEREAS, Currently a member of the Rhode Island Principals Committee on Athletics, Arthur Elmasian is also a member of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, the East Providence Hall of Fame Committee, NASSP, RIASSP and EPASP; and
WHEREAS, A former Director of Baseball and Football for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, Arthur Elmasian was also the Director of Recreation for Seekonk, Massachusetts, and the United Fund Campaign. He, likewise, was a member of the Affirmative Action Committee, N.E.A., N.E.A.R.I., E.P.E.A., Credit Union Board of Directors, the Knights of Columbus, Director of Summer Camp for the East Providence YMCA, and served in the Little League (Babe Ruth League). His splendid efforts were recognized by St. Sahag and St. Mesrob Church with a Special Recognition Award for his contribution to RI IL; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Arthur Elmasian on his retirement as Principal at East Providence Senior High School. The father of Oscar, John, Elizabeth Elmasian and Catherine Croke, and the proud grandfather of four, the membership wishes this extraordinary educator and administrator continued happiness, success and fulfillment; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Arthur Elmasian, retiring Principal of East Providence Senior High School.
