WHEREAS, "Sing we merrily unto God our strength; make a cheerful noise unto the God of Jabob." When the inspired, heavenly voices of the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir fill the air with their glorious songs, listeners are transported to a realm of beauty and wonder beyond anything usually found upon this earth; and
WHEREAS, Justly famed throughout the area for its stirring performances at the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, the Community College of Rhode Island, Dean College and elsewhere, the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir has also earned the unqualified admiration and respect of all Rhode Islanders for its dedicated work within the community and its ability to inspire young people to join its ranks to work for better lives for all; and
WHEREAS, Called upon to spread its message of joy and hope in other states, the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir has also performed on all three major television networks; and
WHEREAS, Perhaps the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir's most famous supporter is President Bill Clinton, who has twice been entertained by the group, once while in Providence and, most recently, at his Second Inauguration in Washington, D.C.; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby welcomes and honors the members of the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir: Director Sonny Isom, the Reverend Robert Farrall, and singers Shayna Prince, Tiffany Mangum, Christina Dimeo, Betty Isom, Carrie Cole, Mary Brown, Angela Munir, Shirley Jones, Rene Wilson, Lucille Brown, Effie Smith, Janie Harley, Gina Strong, Valarie Wilson, Kimberly Jackson, Maribel Berbenna, Kimberly Brown, Viola Ross, Steven Brown, Tawanda Brooks, Stacey Jones, Pamela Byrd, Elston Jackson, Archie Pettiway, Lou Costa, Addie Berryman, Lisa Mitchell, Christopher Neal, Raymond Strong, Laressa Seastrunk, Crystal Pettiway, Tumakia Fenner, Val Mangum, Dora Johnson, Dot Harris, Megan Brown, Regina Gatson, Serita Collins, Jerry Mitchell, Glenda Muskelly and Edward Muskelly on the joyous occasion of their visit to the State House on March 11, 1997, "O clap your hands together, all ye people: O sing unto God with the voice of melody."; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Reverend Robert Farrall and Choir Director Sonny Isom on behalf of all of the members of the Holy Cross Cathedral Choir.
