DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, For over fifty years, Rhode Island’s Community Health Centers have |
2 | provided high-quality, affordable, and comprehensive primary medical, dental, and behavioral |
3 | healthcare to residents across the State; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Qualified Rhode Island Community Health Centers provide care to more |
5 | than 200,000 Rhode Islanders annually, regardless of a person’s age, insurance status, or ability to |
6 | pay; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In addition, some Centers offer language interpretation and translation, as |
8 | well as transportation and case management; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Community Health Centers employ more than 2,000 physicians, nurse |
10 | practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, behavioral health providers, and support staff; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island's Community Health Centers create and support more than |
12 | 3,000 jobs and generate more than $540 million in total economic activity; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The eight Community Health Centers providing services in all five Rhode |
14 | Island counties are: |
15 | • Blackstone Valley Community Health Care, Inc.; |
16 | • East Bay Community Action Program; |
17 | • Providence Community Health Centers; |
18 | • Thundermist Health Center; |
19 | • Comprehensive Community Action Program; |

1 | • Tri-Town Community Action Agency; |
2 | • WellOne Primary Medical & Dental Care; and |
3 | • Wood River Health; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Community Health Centers are governed by patient-majority boards, |
5 | ensuring the health centers hear and meet the needs of the patients and communities they serve; |
6 | and |
7 | WHEREAS, May 22, 2026, is a day to celebrate the legacy of Rhode Island’s |
8 | Community Health Centers, and their vital role in shaping the past, present, and future of Rhode |
9 | Island’s healthcare system; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
11 | proclaims May 22, 2026, as “Rhode Island Community Health Center Day”; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Blackstone Valley Community Health Care, |
14 | Inc., East Bay Community Action Program, Providence Community Health Centers, Thundermist |
15 | Health Center, Comprehensive Community Action Program, Tri-Town Community Action |
16 | Agency, WellOne Primary Medical & Dental Care, and Wood River Health. |
