A N   A C T

RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- ORDINANCES

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Furtado, Dawson, and Boylan

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-6 of the General Laws entitled "Ordinances" is hereby amended

by adding thereto the following section:

     45-6-13. Hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, or catering establishment – Application;

4

approval.

     The city of East Providence, is hereby authorized and empowered to provide, by ordinance,

6

for the discretionary issuance and revocation of licenses to any person or business entity seeking to

7

engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse, or catering establishment,

8

to establish reasonable fees for the issuance and revocation, and to promulgate, by ordinance,

9

reasonable rules and regulations as to the duration, location, number, and operation of those licenses

10

within the city. Prior to issuance of a license by the city clerk, pursuant to this section, any person

11

or business entity seeking to engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse,

12

or catering establishment shall first obtain approval of the chief of police, the building inspector

13

and the mayor.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

OF

RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- ORDINANCES

     This act would authorize the city of East Providence to issue licenses to any person or

2

business entity seeking to engage in the business of operating a hotel, motel, inn, boardinghouse,

3

or catering establishment. The act would also provide that the business in question first obtains

4

approval from the chief of police, the building inspector and the mayor.

5

     This act would take effect upon passage.
