H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF RAYMOND J. TURBITT

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of

2

Raymond J. Turbitt of Warwick and New Port Richey, Florida. Mr. Turbitt was the beloved

3

husband of Judith "Sharon" Turbitt for 52 years; and

4

     WHEREAS, Raymond J. Turbitt was born in 1944, in Providence, the son of John and

5

Mary Turbitt. Mr. Turbitt was a distinguished educator who taught mathematics in the Warwick

6

Public Schools and Bryant University for many years. Raymond made a positive impact on the

7

lives of countless students; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Turbitt was also a member of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology

9

Project (RIMAP), and participated in the ten-year search for the HMS Gaspee. Mr. Turbitt’s

10

ability to triangulate submerged artifacts and use geometry to expedite site mapping always

11

amazed his colleagues. Raymond was a lifelong member of the Gaspee Home-Owners

12

Association, and never missed a Gaspee Days Parade; and

13

     WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Turbitt enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and

14

basketball. Raymond also loved spending time in the outdoors kayaking, biking, swimming and at

15

the beach. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, especially during

16

Trivia Nights; and

17

     WHEREAS, Raymond Turbitt is survived by his wife, Judith "Sharon" Turbitt, his family

18

and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Turbitt, his sons,

19

Michael and Brian Turbitt, and his sister, Carol Colbert; now, therefore be it

20

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Raymond J. Turbitt; and be it further

2

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

3

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Judith "Sharon" Turbitt and Family.
