HONORING AND REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF NAYASIA A. GONZALEZ

     WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island mourns the tragic and untimely passing of

2

Nayasia A. Gonzalez, a vibrant young woman whose life was taken far too soon on November

3

29, 2025; and

4

     WHEREAS, Nayasia Gonzalez was just nineteen years old at the time of her passing and

5

was an innocent bystander in a senseless act of violence, a loss that has deeply shaken her family,

6

friends, and the broader community; and

7

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Nayasia was the cherished daughter of

8

Raisa Gonzalez and Iryan J. “Jerome” Aubert, and a beloved sister, granddaughter, godmother,

9

and friend whose presence brought joy, laughter, and light to those around her; and

10

     WHEREAS, Nayasia was a proud graduate of Shea High School and the Rhode Island

11

Alternative Academy, Class of 2024, and went on to attend the Community College of Rhode

12

Island, where she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, inspired by her deep desire to help and

13

care for others; and

14

     WHEREAS, In speaking about her desire to become a nurse, Nayasia shared words that

15

reflected her resilience, compassion, and calling to serve others, stating: “I grew up around

16

doctors, either for me or my family members, because we were going through some traumatic

17

stuff; I know I wanted to give up. But I know now I want to help others like people have helped

18

me”; and

19

     WHEREAS, A gifted and passionate artist, Nayasia was a competitive dancer with

20

Dancin Spirit Performing Arts, excelling in lyrical, contemporary, and tap dance, and was also a

remarkably talented contortionist whose performances captivated audiences; and

2

     WHEREAS, Nayasia generously shared her talents as a mentor at AS220 Performing

3

Arts Center, teaching dance to children and serving as a role model through her creativity,

4

discipline, and kindness; and

5

     WHEREAS, Her energy and athleticism extended beyond the arts, as she proudly served

6

as a cheerleader for the Central Falls Panthers, participated as a skilled tumbler, and played

7

basketball in the Ralph J. Holden League; and

8

     WHEREAS, Nayasia was also deeply committed to service and community, volunteering

9

with Shoot for Hope and spreading positivity through her actions, her humor, and her

10

unforgettable greeting of “Hey Girl!” that so many will carry with them always; and

11

     WHEREAS, A person of faith, Nayasia was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in

12

Pawtucket, where her warm smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart touched many within the parish

13

community; and

14

     WHEREAS, Nayasia is survived by her parents, Raisa Gonzalez and Iryan J. “Jerome”

15

Aubert; her siblings, Kevin Gonzalez, Kierra Baptista, Jayleanna Sanchez, Jerlaiza Gonzalez,

16

Iryan Aubert II, and Renzell Aubert; her grandmother, Maria Gonzalez; her godmother,

17

Jacqueline Aubert; her godson, Rajah J. Gonzalez; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends

18

who will forever cherish her memory; and

19

     WHEREAS, Nayasia was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruddy Acosta, Lenny

20

Page, and Gloria Lopes; and

21

     WHEREAS, Through this resolution, the name of Nayasia A. Gonzalez shall be

22

permanently recorded in the official proceedings and archives of the Rhode Island General

23

Assembly, ensuring that her life, her story, and her legacy will endure as part of the history of this

24

state; and

25

     WHEREAS, Though her time with us was far too brief, Nayasia A. Gonzalez lived with

26

creativity, compassion, and love, leaving an indelible mark on her family, her community, and all

27

who had the privilege of knowing her; now, therefore be it

28

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

29

honors and remembers the life of Nayasia A. Gonzalez, expresses its deepest condolences to her

30

family, and affirms that her name and legacy will forever live on in the recorded history of the

31

State of Rhode Island; and be it further

32

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

33

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Raisa Gonzalez and Iryan J. “Jerome” Aubert,
