HONORING AND THANKING KAREN MCGRATH FOR THIRTY-NINE YEARS OF

DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CRANSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY

     WHEREAS, Karen McGrath, branch librarian at the Auburn branch of the Cranston

2

Public Library, is retiring after a forty-five-year career in Rhode Island public libraries; and

3

     WHEREAS, Karen earned her Master of Library Science from Simmons College and has

4

served the residents of Cranston as the Auburn branch librarian for thirty-nine years; and

5

     WHEREAS, During her tenure at the library, Karen started a program to bring books to

6

homebound library patrons in 1996, and that program evolved into the Books @ Home program

7

which has been providing library materials to homebound patrons of Cranston for twenty-nine

8

years; and

9

     WHEREAS, Karen was a longtime Trustee at the Tyler Free Library in Foster, is also a

10

longtime member of the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA), and has served for twenty

11

years on the RILA conference committee; and

12

     WHEREAS, Karen has been recognized nationally by the American Library Association

13

for her work with the Books @ Home program, and in 2013, was honored with RILA’s Service

14

Award in recognition of her two decades as RILA Conference Committee Chair; now, therefore

15

be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

17

joins the members and staff of the Cranston Public Library in extending heartfelt best wishes to

18

Karen McGrath. We furthermore thank her for her dedicated service to Rhode Island libraries

19

and wish her a happy and well-deserved retirement; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Karen McGrath.
