HONORING AND THANKING JAMES R. HOYT ON THE OCCASION OF HIS | |
RETIREMENT AFTER FIFTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE WITH THE BOYS & | |
GIRLS CLUB OF PAWTUCKET | |

1 | WHEREAS, In 1976, upon graduation from Barrington College, Jim, as he is fondly |
2 | known, began what would become a long and celebrated career at the Boys & Girls Club of |
3 | Pawtucket as a part-time physical education staff member; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In 1977, Mr. Hoyt became the Club's aquatics director, and in 1979, he took |
5 | on the responsibilities of unit director. In 1990, Jim became director of operations. Ultimately in |
6 | 2004, Jim was named CEO, a position he has held for more than two decades; and |
7 | WHEREAS, During his tenure at the helm, Mr. Hoyt is credited with expanding the |
8 | Club's programs in order to attract both boys and girls, which led to substantial increases in the |
9 | Club's attendance figures. In addition, he headed a very successful capital campaign that raised $8 |
10 | million to expand the Club's size, and is currently spearheading the preparations for the Club's |
11 | 125th Anniversary celebration for 2025; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Also dedicated to the community, Mr. Hoyt has served on myriad boards |
13 | and committees including, the Northeast Training & Professional Development Advisory |
14 | Committee, was the founding President of the Ocean State Chapter, Association of Boys & Girls |
15 | Club Professionals, is a board member on the Pawtucket Riverfront Commission, The Pawtucket |
16 | Foundation, is an active member of the Pawtucket Lions Club, and has been a member of the |
17 | Blackstone Valley Community Action Program Board for more than 25 years, to name but a few; |
18 | and |
19 | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Hoyt has continuously been recognized and |

1 | honored for his devotion and tireless leadership. He was chosen as BGCA masters & mentor, was |
2 | awarded the Professional of the Year for the Northeast region, recognized as the Woodruff |
3 | Fellow from BGCA, was awarded the Professional Development Award of Excellence for BGCA |
4 | Training and Professional Development, recognized with the Blue Spirit Award for the Northeast |
5 | Region, is Certified as a Sherpa Executive Coach, and was inducted into the Pawtucket Hall of |
6 | Fame in 2022; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyt will leave a legacy of commitment that has touched the lives and |
8 | hearts of so many young people and the community as a whole. He is an extraordinary gentleman |
9 | who serves as a model of dedicated and conscientious service, and he is enormously worthy of |
10 | our emulation and gratitude; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | congratulates and thanks James Hoyt on his retirement after 50 years of dedicated service with |
13 | the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket. We moreover wish him good health, much happiness and all |
14 | the best in his future endeavors; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. James R. Hoyt. |
