EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANN D. MCCAFFREY | |

1 | WHEREAS, This House was saddened to hear of the passing of Ann McCaffrey, the |
2 | beloved wife of the late Eugene McCaffrey, Jr., the former Mayor of Warwick, and the cherished |
3 | mother of the Honorable Mary McCaffrey, our dear friend and former Senate Majority Leader |
4 | Michael McCaffrey, Esq. and his wife, Deirdre, John McCaffrey, Esq. and his wife, Margaret, |
5 | Eugene McCaffrey, III, and William McCaffrey and his wife, Heather; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Born in the City of Providence, Ann Davis was the eldest daughter of the |
7 | late F. Sheldon and Gertrude Davis, the sister of Elizabeth Alfonso and the late Gertrude Audet, |
8 | and the aunt to many nieces and nephews; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Ann grew up in the Conimicut neighborhood of Warwick. She graduated |
10 | from Gorton High School, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College, and attained |
11 | a Master of Arts degree in History from Providence College; and |
12 | WHEREAS, With a loving and kind personality, Mrs. McCaffrey created and nurtured a |
13 | marriage that flourished, and a home that was warm and welcoming to her large and boisterous |
14 | family. She was always encouraging and doted on her family, particularly in her role as “Nannie” |
15 | to her treasured grandchildren, Michael, Cailin, Brenna, Catherine, Deirdre, Brendan, Matthew, |
16 | Luke and Elizabeth, who were the light of her life; and |
17 | WHEREAS, For many years, Mrs. McCaffrey was an elementary and secondary special |
18 | education teacher in the Warwick Public Schools and was later a member of the RI Retired |
19 | Teachers' Association; and |
20 | WHEREAS, Devoted to her faith, Mrs. McCaffrey was a life-long communicant of St. |

1 | Benedict Church. In addition, she was a member of the National Society Daughters of the |
2 | American Revolution, General Nathanael Greene-Pettaquamscutt Chapter, The General Society |
3 | of Mayflower Descendants, and the Squantum Association; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Ann McCaffrey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a loyal and |
5 | lifelong friend to many, and a “ray of sunshine” to her family and all who knew her, and there is |
6 | no doubt that she left an indelible mark on the lives of those she knew and loved, and she is |
7 | dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | extends deepest sympathy and condolences on the passing of Ann D. McCaffrey; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Mary E. McCaffrey and Family, |
12 | the Honorable Michael McCaffrey, Esq. and Family, John McCaffrey, Esq. and Family, Eugene |
13 | McCaffrey, III, and William McCaffrey and Family. |
