HONORING REPRESENTATIVE EDWARD T. CARDILLO, JR. FOR HIS SERVICE TO | |
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Edward T. Cardillo, Jr., Representative from District 42 of |
2 | the Rhode Island House of Representatives, is stepping down at the end of the 2024 legislative |
3 | year; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In November of 2020, Representative Cardillo was elected to represent the |
5 | people of Johnston in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, a position he has held for the |
6 | past four years. Most recently, he has served as a member of the House Labor Committee, the |
7 | House Oversight Committee, and the House Small Business Committee; and |
8 | WHEREAS, During his term in office, Representative Cardillo introduced legislation that |
9 | would remove the $8 fee for vehicle owners who acquire a newly redesigned license plate, a bill |
10 | that ultimately became law with the passage of the State budget. He also sponsored legislation |
11 | requiring the disclosure of default judgments of credit card debt by state officials to increase |
12 | transparency in the legislative process, and cosponsored legislation requiring annual weapons |
13 | qualifications for correctional officers, as well as a law designed to help curb the theft of catalytic |
14 | converters; and |
15 | WHEREAS, In addition, during his tenure in the House, Representative Cardillo |
16 | championed and added his support for the passage of a $210 million general obligation bond that |
17 | would fund building and repairs to the Town of Johnston's public schools; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Previous to his service in the House, Representative Cardillo served on the |
19 | Johnston Housing Authority and the Johnston Democratic Town Committee; and |

1 | WHEREAS, A graduate of Cranston High School, Representative Cardillo is an |
2 | employee of J. DeMarco Landscape Inc., and was a former mechanic. He makes his home in the |
3 | Town of Johnston with his wife, Patricia, and is the proud father of two daughters, Brianna and |
4 | Lauren; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Cardillo has enhanced Rhode Island’s future through his |
6 | diligent efforts on behalf of his constituency and the citizens of this State, and he will be greatly |
7 | missed in the House Chamber; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | expresses sincere gratitude to Representative Edward T. Cardillo, Jr. as he concludes his service |
10 | in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our |
11 | sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and is hereby authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Edward T. Cardillo, Jr. |
