EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CEDRIC PAUL | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Cedric |
2 | Paul Huntley, the well-respected and admired former Executive Director of the Nonviolence |
3 | Institute in Providence, and the devoted husband of Anika Kimble-Huntley, father of stepchildren |
4 | Ryan, Sean, Alexis, Stephon, Dale, and daughter Tyler, and the step grandfather of Tyree, Dale, |
5 | Keean, and Avery; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mr. Huntley was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, the son of the late Edward |
7 | Huntley and Theresa Huntley, and the stepson of Eric Jackson, and the brother of Phyllis Huntley |
8 | Evans, Angela Huntley, Regina Huntley, and Christopher Huntley and his wife, JoAnn. He is also |
9 | survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and |
10 | WHEREAS, As a young child, Mr. Huntley's family relocated to Providence. He |
11 | attended La Salle Academy, where he was a star basketball player. He continued his education, |
12 | earning his degree from Rhode Island Junior College, and subsequently, his Master's in Education |
13 | from Cambridge College; and |
14 | WHEREAS, At an early age, Mr. Huntley was instilled with the "values of integrity, |
15 | education, hard work, and community service that would guide his life's work" and while |
16 | attending the Roger Williams Day Care Summer Camp in 1976, he began what would become a |
17 | lifetime of "commitment to helping others achieve their dreams through quality education and |
18 | opportunities"; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Over the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Huntley worked in Rhode |

1 | Island Governor Sundlun's Office of Constituent Services, owned a small business, and served as |
2 | Site Director of the South Providence Recreation Center and Director of Student Support Services |
3 | at The MET School. In addition, and most notably, he was the Executive Director of the |
4 | Nonviolence Institute where he established relationships with community leaders, government |
5 | officials, and philanthropists in order to drive positive change throughout the State; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community, Mr. Huntley also served on myriad boards and |
7 | commissions, including College Unbound, the MET School, Rhode Island Police Accreditation |
8 | Commission, Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, LaSalle Academy Board of |
9 | Trustees, Criminal Justice Policy Board, and the Providence Police Advisory Board; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Cedric Huntley "promoted education, |
11 | accountability, and hard work as the foundation of success, always leading with love, patience, |
12 | and humility" and there is no doubt that he left Rhode Island a far better place because of his life's |
13 | endeavors; now, therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
15 | extends deepest condolences on the passing of Cedric Paul Huntley; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Anika Kimble-Huntley and Family, and |
18 | Theresa Jackson and Family. |
