S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING SENATOR FRANK S. LOMBARDI, ESQ. FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE

PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate bids farewell to our good friend and

2

colleague, Senator Frank S. Lombardi, who is retiring from the Rhode Island Senate, District 26,

3

after twelve years of devoted public service to his constituents and the citizens of the State of

4

Rhode Island; and

5

     WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Classical High School, Senator Lombardi earned his

6

Bachelor’s degree in business from Providence College and a Juris Doctor from the Northeastern

7

University School of Law. He is the husband of Antonelia Lombardi, and together they have twin

8

daughters, Cassandra and Christina; and

9

     WHEREAS, Most currently, Senator Lombardi serves as Vice Chair of the Senate

10

Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Labor. During his tenure in the Senate he

11

has advanced legislation to protect children and workers, support families and small businesses,

12

and promote government reform and transparency; and

13

     WHEREAS, Senator Lombardi has sponsored and supported legislation barring third-

14

party delivery services from listing a business without that business's consent, legislation

15

prohibiting employers from making deductions from an employee's wages without written

16

authorization from the worker, a bill requiring court-appointed special advocate volunteers for

17

abused children to pass background checks, and a bill to ensure an adult trained in recognizing

18

concussion symptoms is present during all youth sports events. He also initiated legislation

19

adding dyslexia screening as a required portion of elementary literacy programs and a bill to bar

the sale of puppies that are not fully weaned; and

2

     WHEREAS, Over the course of his time at the State House, Senator Lombardi has also

3

introduced legislation giving families the right to visit relatives in nursing homes during

4

emergencies and permit homeowners to build accessory dwellings for family members, a bill

5

requiring transparency on the 38 Studios issue, and called for a joint legislative commission to

6

study line-item veto authority and runoff elections for governor when no candidate receives a

7

majority vote; and

8

     WHEREAS, Senator Lombardi has practiced law for nearly three decades and maintains

9

an active law practice, Frank S. Lombardi Law Associates. He has also served as a Probate

10

Clerk/Judge for the City of Providence, is a former member of the Board of Directors for the

11

Justinian Law Society, and formerly served as Vice President of the Probate Judges Association;

12

and

13

     WHEREAS, Devoted to his community, Senator Lombardi has been a longtime youth

14

soccer official and was inducted into the Rhode Island Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

15

He was also honored as the organization’s Referee of the Year eight times and is President of the

16

Rhode Island Soccer Officials Association. If you want to hear more about his experiences on the

17

pitch, just ask him! He is a parishioner of the Holy Apostles Church, a former member of the

18

Board of Trustees for Saint Mary's Academy Bay View, and a former Board Member for Saint

19

Rocco's School; and

20

     WHEREAS, Senator Lombardi’s devotion to the citizens of Cranston and the Ocean

21

State have earned him our unqualified admiration and respect, and he will most assuredly be

22

missed; now, therefore be it

23

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby honors Senator Frank

24

S. Lombardi as he concludes his service in the Rhode Island Senate. We moreover thank him for

25

a job well done, and extend our sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness and success;

26

and be it further

27

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

28

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Frank S. Lombardi, Esq.
