CELEBRATING MAY OF 2024, AS "OLDER AMERICANS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF

RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, May is Older Americans Month, a time for all Rhode Islanders to recognize

2

and honor older adults and their immense influence on every facet of Rhode Island society; and

3

     WHEREAS, Through their wealth of life experience and wisdom, older adults guide our

4

younger generations and carry forward abundant cultural and historical knowledge; and

5

     WHEREAS, Older Americans improve our communities through intergenerational

6

relationships, community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and

7

     WHEREAS, Communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds

8

have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and

9

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island must ensure that older adults have the resources and support

10

needed to stay involved in their communities — reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and

11

connectedness; and

12

     WHEREAS, Older Rhode Islanders contribute their time and wisdom to make our

13

communities stronger, more informed, and better connected. They are our loved ones, friends,

14

mentors, essential workers, volunteers, and neighbors; and

15

     WHEREAS, Older Americans Month is a time for all Rhode Islanders to pay tribute to

16

the seniors who raised and guided us throughout our lives and to honor their contributions by

17

giving them the fullest care, support, and respect they deserve; now, therefore be it

18

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island proclaims “Older Americans

19

Month” and celebrates their achievements. We furthermore recommit to providing our elders with

the support and services they need to thrive and age with dignity; and be it further

2

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

3

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Maria Cimini, Director of the Rhode Island

4

Office of Healthy Living.
