EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF GREGORY A. JONES (LT.-RET.

CFD)

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Gregory

2

A. Jones (LT.-RET. CFD) a dedicated public servant and firefighter; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was born in Providence, the son of Anne Jones and the late

4

Arthur Jones. He was a resident of Cumberland for the past 25 years and had previously resided

5

in North Kingstown and Pawtucket; and

6

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jones had a distinguished professional career as an Engineer for

7

Verizon for 31 years. At the same time, he served as a paid-on-call firefighter for 21 years with

8

the former Cumberland Hill Fire District; and

9

     WHEREAS, After retiring from Verizon, Mr. Jones became a member of the

10

Cumberland Fire District where he served with distinction and tireless service until his retirement

11

due to illness in 2022; and

12

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jones' commitment to public service and community extended beyond

13

his professional responsibilities. He served as a member of the Cumberland Firefighters Local

14

2722, (IAFF), the Rhode Island State Association of Firefighters (RISAFF), the International

15

Association of Firefighters, (IAFF), and as the past President and board member of the Public

16

Safety Union Hall. He was also previously a member of the former Cumberland Hill Firefighters

17

Association; and

18

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jones' additional charitable endeavors included supporting the Rhode

19

Island Special Olympics, where he contributed many hours of service in support of the Penguin

Plunge, the Torch Run, and the State Summer Games at URI, and national events including

2

serving at some Special Olympics USA Games; and

3

     WHEREAS, In his free hours, Mr. Jones enjoyed spending quality time with his family

4

and many friends, especially water related activities ranging from cruising on the water to

5

spending quiet time on a tranquil pond; and

6

     WHEREAS, In addition to his mother, Anne, Mr. Jones leaves behind his children,

7

Jennifer Ricard, and Jonathan Richmond and his wife, Nikki. He also leaves behind his sisters,

8

Kerri Austin and her husband, Joe, Kristine Jones and her husband, Jerry, and Kimberly McPhee

9

and her husband, Nigel. Mr. Jones also leaves behind his grandchildren, Riley Ricard, Brendan

10

Ricard, Brielle Richmond and Caiden Richmond, as well as his nieces and nephews, Philip

11

Austin and his wife, Kendall, Daniel Peirce, Michael McPhee, and Sarah McPhee, and his great-

12

nephew, Demetri Austin. He was the brother of the late Timothy Jones; now, therefore be it

13

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its

14

condolences on the passing of Gregory A. Jones (LT.-Ret. CFD); and be it further

15

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

16

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Anne Jones, Jennifer Ricard and Jonathan

17

Richmond.
