CELEBRATING SAMUEL KESANDU CHIONUMA'S LIFE AND SERVICE TO RHODE

ISLAND AND THE NATION

     WHEREAS, Samuel Kesandu Chionuma was one of Rhode Island and our Nation's best,

dedicating his life to service and at the age of thirty-seven, was tragically taken from us far too

soon in a senseless act of violence; and

      WHEREAS, Samuel Chionuma served our Nation courageously and honorably in the

United States Army, completing two tours of duty as an infantryman in combat in Iraq and was

awarded multiple commendations, medals, and honors. From the time he first joined ROTC and

through his years in combat, and in leadership roles while stationed in Hawaii, he served a total of

13 years in the military, rising to the rank of Captain; and

      WHEREAS, Playing a key role in Rhode Island's response to COVID, Samuel

Chionuma ensured that tests were widely distributed, thus enabling the State to better combat the

pandemic. He continued to serve Rhode Island as a Senior Consultant and Operations Manager

for the Rhode Island Department of Human Services; and

      WHEREAS, Truly a special person, Samuel Chionuma filled his years with acts of

courage in service to Rhode Island and his country, with love and devotion to his parents,

siblings, cousins, and nephew, and with unparalleled generosity and friendship to the people he

encountered from all walks of life; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes and

celebrates the life and service of Samuel Kesandu Chionuma to Rhode Island and the United

States; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Zaneta Chionuma and Family, and Rob

Horowitz, Rob Horowitz Associates, Inc.
