EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE CHARLES W.

BECK

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Charles

2

W. Beck, known as the "Unofficial Mayor of Charlestown, Rhode Island." He was born in

3

Hartford, Connecticut, the son of the late Charles and Elenor Beck; and

4

     WHEREAS, Charles Beck graduated from Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester,

5

New York. In the 1980s, he became the owner of the Charlestown Mini Super and was still

6

working there when he passed; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Beck was actively involved in Charlestown civic affairs. He served with

8

integrity and distinction as a member of the Charlestown Town Council and rose to the position

9

of President of the Town Council. He was also a longĀ­time member of the South County Tourism

10

Association; and

11

     WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Beck was a passionate golfer and had played his last

12

round the day before his passing at his favorite golf course, Pinecrest. He was a long-time

13

member of the South County Umpires Association, and officiated many baseball and softball

14

games throughout his life. Most importantly, he was a loving father, a great friend to many

15

people, and was widely admired for his good character, generosity, and exceptional sense of

16

humor; and

17

     WHEREAS, Charles Beck leaves behind his sons, Calvin Beck and Cooper Beck, and his

18

siblings, Deborah Berry, Timothy Beck and Kathleen Beck. He was the longtime companion of

19

Darlene DeSantis. He also leaves behind his former wife, Wendy Beck; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its

2

condolences on the passing of Charles W. Beck; and be it further

3

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

4

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Calvin Beck and Cooper Beck.
