S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF GEORGE ROBERT SHERMAN, SR.

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of George

2

Robert Sherman, Sr., of Hopkinton, the devoted husband of the late Shirley Sherman; and

3

     WHEREAS, George Sherman, Sr., was born in Wakefield, the son of the late Robert and

4

Eva Sherman. He expressed his lifelong interest in a public safety service career when, at the age

5

of 15, he became a volunteer firefighter with the Charlestown/Richmond Fire Departments; and

6

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sherman served our Nation with honor and distinction as a member of

7

the United States Marine Corps. He went on to serve a long and distinguished career with the

8

Carolina Fire Department, retiring as the Fire Chief. His legacy of public service excellence lives

9

on with his sons and grandchildren who are following his path serving as firefighters; and

10

     WHEREAS, Sports were always an important part of Mr. Sherman’s life. He coached

11

baseball, enjoyed fishing, and was a passionate NASCAR, New York Yankees and WWE

12

Wrestling fan. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader; and

13

     WHEREAS, George Sherman, Sr., leaves behind his children George Sherman, Jr., and

14

his wife, Karen, Catherine Rogers, and her husband, Dale, Audura Pagliarini and her husband,

15

Michael, Frederick Sherman and his wife, Stacey, and Daniel Sherman and his companion, Erica

16

Martira. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law

17

Pearl Turgeon; and

18

     WHEREAS, First and foremost in Mr. Sherman’s life was always his family. He was a

19

devoted husband, father, son and grandfather. He was a shining light whose life burned brightly

20

within the lives of his loved ones, many friends and the wider community, and his love and

legacy will live on forever in their hearts and minds; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island be and hereby expresses its

3

deepest condolences on the passing of George Robert Sherman, Sr., and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to George Sherman, Jr., Catherine Rogers, Audura

6

Pagliarini, Frederick Sherman, and Daniel Sherman.
