It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 13-7-15 of the General Laws in Chapter 13-7 entitled "Prisoner Made |
2 | Goods" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 13-7-15. Business operations and budget. |
4 | Correctional industries shall maintain an accurate and timely accounting of monies |
5 | received from the sale of products or services of committed offenders. Monies accredited into the |
6 | correctional industries fund shall be used for the purchase of materials, supervision, and other |
7 | requirements necessary to support the production of goods and services. Entities that place orders |
8 | with correctional industries are required to pay correctional industries fifty percent (50%) of their |
9 | quoted material costs once the items have been ordered. All expenditures from the correctional |
10 | industry fund shall be subject to the approval of the director of corrections or his or her designee, |
11 | who may employ those funds to defray all operating expenses. All net profits for the fiscal year |
12 | shall be reinvested into the correctional industries fund to support capital purchases, and the general |
13 | expansion and development of correctional industries. All additional profits will revert to the |
14 | general treasury. |
15 | SECTION 2. Chapter 13-7 of the General Laws entitled "Prisoner Made Goods" is hereby |
16 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
17 | 13-7-8.2. Requisition of goods by nonprofits. |
18 | The department of corrections may accept orders from any 501(c)(3) for any articles, |

1 | services or materials similar to those produced at the adult correctional institutions. |
2 | SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
