S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING MARCH OF 2024, TO BE "DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

McKenney, Britto, Ciccone, and Gu

     WHEREAS, In Rhode Island, approximately 4,000 individuals have developmental

2

disabilities; and

3

     WHEREAS, There are 37 community agencies licensed by the Rhode Island Department

4

of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH), and/or certified

5

by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), that provide a range of services and

6

support systems for those with developmental disabilities in the State of Rhode Island; and

7

     WHEREAS, For more than thirty years, Rhode Island has been a leader in providing and

8

advancing services for the developmentally disabled community; and

9

     WHEREAS, Individuals with developmental disabilities strive to be contributing

10

members of their community, including attaining employment; and

11

     WHEREAS, The establishment of March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness

12

Month has promoted the ongoing endeavor to educate the citizens of this State about the myriad

13

contributions made by those with developmental disabilities; now, therefore be it

14

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims March of

15

2024, to be "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month" in our State. We furthermore

16

encourage all our State's residents to join in recognizing the importance of this month; and be it

17

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

19

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Tina Spears, MPA Executive
