1 | WHEREAS, On March 7, 2024, a special ceremony will be held in the Rhode Island |
2 | Senate and House chambers to honor the Rhode Island top girls in Middle School and High |
3 | School Wrestling. This event, which will be taking place during Women in History Month, is |
4 | being organized by Rhode Island State Senator Jonathon Acosta and State Representative Joshua |
5 | Giraldo, and will honor and recognize these talented trail-blazing student-athletes for their great |
6 | achievements. Some of whom will also have the honor of representing Rhode Island in the |
7 | upcoming New England Championship; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Girls' wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the United States and the goal |
9 | is to offer the same growth opportunities for girls' wrestling in Rhode Island. The dedication of |
10 | these athletes, and the hard work and support provided by their coaches, is an inspiration to |
11 | everyone in Rhode Island; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The 2024 Middle School Girls' State Team Champion is the |
13 | Calcutt/Blackstone Valley Prep Middle School Co-Op Girls' Wrestling Team and the 2024 High |
14 | School Girls' State Team Champion is the Scituate High School Girls' Wrestling Team; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Earning first place honors in Rhode Island High School Wrestling are |

15 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby heartily honors and |
16 | celebrates all of the accomplishments of Rhode Island’s top girls in Middle School and High |
17 | School Wrestling; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby supports all of women’s and girls' athletics and |
19 | desires that Rhode Island girls' wrestling experience the same success it is currently attaining |
20 | across the nation, and it is fitting that we honor these young ladies during women’s history |
21 | month; and be it further |
22 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
23 | transmit a duly certifies copy of this resolution to Coach Eugene Monteiro, Calcutt/BVP Co-Op, |
24 | and Coach Serge Bouyssou, Scituate. |
