RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES

GENERALLY

     Introduced By: Senators Ciccone, DiPalma, Britto, Zurier, Burke, and Tikoian

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-23 of the General Laws entitled "Equipment and Accessories

Generally" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-23-12.1. Providence canteen vehicles.

     (a) The motor vehicle equipment belonging to the Providence Canteen with headquarters

in Providence, Rhode Island, is declared to be an authorized emergency vehicle and may be

equipped with a siren, whistle or bell as provided in § 31-23-11.

     (b) Any operator of the Providence Canteen motor vehicle shall have, at a minimum, five

(5) hours of training and instruction from an active or retired police officer or firefighter, in the

operation of the Providence Canteen vehicle as an authorized emergency vehicle and the use of

emergency lights and sirens.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize Providence Canteen vehicles to be equipped with sirens, whistles

or bells and would require operators of any canteen vehicle to receive five (5) hours of training in

the operation of the vehicle and its emergency equipment.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
