WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the tragic passing of

4

and

5

WHEREAS, Katelyn was born in the City of Fall River, the cherished daughter of James

6

and Karen McCanna. She grew up spending idyllic days on what was affectionately known as

7

“Katelyn’s Beach” with her best friend and sister, Jaymie Naclerio, and dreamed of one day

8

becoming a teacher; and

9

WHEREAS, Upon graduation from St. Luke's School and LaSalle Academy, Katelyn

10

earned her Bachelor’s degree from Salve Regina University, and making her dream come true,

her teaching career and obtain her Master’s degree from the University of Las Vegas; and

13

WHEREAS, Three years late, Katelyn returned to Rhode Island and her beloved family,

14

taking a position teaching in the Bristol Warren Regional School District, where she split her time

15

between Hugh Cole and Colt Andrews School. For the majority of her years teaching, she had

16

been a gifted and beloved kindergarten teacher, most recently at Hugh Cole School; and

17

WHEREAS, It was to the very good fortune of many a young student when they were

assigned to Katelyn’s kindergarten class. Her ability to open her student’s minds to the magic of

ideas, knowledge, and dreams, and find the very best in themselves was truly unparalleled; and

1

WHEREAS, In addition to her teaching and years at the State House, Katelyn was active

2

with various extracurricular activities and volunteering with myriad altruistic community service

3

initiatives; and

4

WHEREAS, Although Katelyn’s time with her beloved husband was sadly short, their

5

love was joyous and brought her an immeasurable abundance of happiness. In addition, Katelyn

6

also leaves behind her aunt and Godmother, Cathi Terry and husband, Uncle Ed, her Uncle John

7

Calitri and Auntie Kb, her cousins, Michael and Erin Terry and their children, Ben and Sierra

8

Terry and their son, Chris Calitri and wife, Katie, and Matthew Calitri, the Felag Boys, and many

9

aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and

10

WHEREAS, The most fitting tribute to Katelyn McCanna Vieira is a celebration of her

11

life, a life in which each and every day was lived fully and joyfully embraced. She was fortunate

12

to have always enjoyed the total love and support of her family, and in return, she brightened and
