RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- CITY OF NEWPORT -- ELECTRIC

BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Title 31 of the General Laws entitled "MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES"

is hereby amended by adding thereto the following chapter:

CHAPTER 19.7

CITY OF NEWPORT -- ELECTRIC BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS

     31-19.7-1. City of Newport -- Electric bicycles and scooters.

     (a) For the purposes of this chapter, the city council of the city of Newport may, by

ordinance, regulate the use and operation of e-bikes and e-scooters within the city of Newport.

     (b) Any ordinances may include, but shall not be limited to, the operators' age, licensing,

registration and insurance requirements; provided, however, the ordinances do not conflict with

any existing general law.

     (c) The city council may also enact ordinances related to permitted and prohibited

roadways and other areas of the city on which e-bikes and e-scooters may be operated.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would enable the Newport city council to enact ordinances to regulate the use and

operation of e-bikes and e-scooters.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
