S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARY JO POULIOT

     WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Mary Jo

2

Pouliot, the cherished wife of Raymond Pouliot for fifty-three years; and

3

     WHEREAS, Born in Long Beach, California, Mrs. Pouliot was the daughter of the late

4

Daniel and Mary Shea, and the sister of Patricia Bailey and her husband, Scott, Margaret

5

MacGilpin and her husband, Greg, and Daniel Shea. She was also the beloved aunt to many

6

nieces and nephews; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Pouliot was a wonderful and caring English Teacher at Gallagher

8

Middle School in Smithfield for thirty-five years. She possessed a passion for teaching and

9

education, and always looked for and brought out the best in her students, colleagues, and all

10

those who shared her life; and

11

     WHEREAS, For six years, Mrs. Pouliot had also coached the Gallagher Middle School

12

Girls' Basketball Team, who under her guidance, had won the State Championship during that

13

period; and

14

     WHEREAS, Always there for anyone who needed her help or someone to listen, Mrs.

15

Pouliot inspired her students, a number of whom later returned to the Smithfield School system

16

and became her colleagues; and

17

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Pouliot was a dedicated union leader and member of NEA Smithfield

18

and the National Education Association Rhode Island. She had also served as President of the

19

NEA Rhode Island Children's Fund, and after retiring, became involved with the NEA Rhode

20

Island Retired group, ultimately serving as President; and

     WHEREAS, An avid reader, Mrs. Pouliot also enjoyed traveling with her husband and

2

cruising with their friends, particularly to the sunny Caribbean; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mary Jo Pouliot touched the lives of so many people and her legacy will

4

forever live on in the generations of students she inspired, and in the hearts of the family she

5

loved; now, therefore be it

6

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby extends deepest

7

condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mary Jo Pouliot; and be it further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Raymond Pouliot and Family.
