S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE STATE OF ISRAEL AS IT DEFENDS ITSELF

AGAINST THE BARBARIC WAR LAUNCHED BY HAMAS AND OTHER TERRORISTS

     WHEREAS, The State of Israel has the right to exist as a sovereign and independent

nation, with the full rights and privileges afforded to all nations under international law; and

     WHEREAS, The United States of America has had a longstanding alliance with the State

of Israel, which is founded on shared democratic principles and common interests; and

     WHEREAS, Beginning on October 7, 2023, Hamas, a United States-designated terrorist

organization whose charter calls for the destruction of the State of Israel, launched a massive,

unprovoked attack on the State of Israel by air, land, and sea which has resulted in more than

1,400 Israelis being murdered and more than 7,000 rockets being launched into the State of Israel;

and

     WHEREAS, Hamas terrorists crossed the land border and began slaughtering, raping and

torturing Israelis as well as abducting hostages in towns in southern Israel, including children and

the elderly; and

     WHEREAS, Hamas used rudimentary civilian equipment, such as bulldozers,

paragliders, and rubber boats in its assault on Israel, demonstrating the importance of fully

enforcing tight controls on what materials go into the Gaza Strip, including the vetting of

assistance; and

     WHEREAS, This heinous assault took place just after the 50th Anniversary of the start of

the multi-front 1972 Yom Kippur War against Israel; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby stands firmly in

solidarity with the State of Israel in its efforts to safeguard its citizens, protect its borders, and

ensure the safety and security of its people; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the

partnership our country shares with the State of Israel; and be it further

      RESOLVED, That this Senate condemns this unprovoked attack by Hamas against Israel

and its citizens and supports Israel's right to defend itself and protect its citizens from

indiscriminate violence and terrorism; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this Senate unequivocally supports the right of the State of Israel to

exist as a sovereign and independent nation, with the full recognition of its borders and territory;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Rhode Island, the

members of the Rhode Island Congressional delegation, and the Ambassador of the State of Israel

to the United States as a testament of the enduring partnership between our states, and the

unwavering support of the State of Rhode Island for the State of Israel.
