HONORING REPRESENTATIVE BARBARA ANN FENTON-FUNG FOR HER SERVICE | |
TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the good fortune of the people of the City of Cranston, Barbara Ann |
2 | Fenton-Fung chose a life path that would eventually lead to a vocation in public service. In |
3 | November of 2020, she was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing |
4 | District 15 and the people of Cranston; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Over the past four years, Representative Fenton-Fung has lent her expertise |
6 | and unique insights to myriad legislative committees. Most recently, as a member of the House |
7 | Health and Human Services Committee, House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, |
8 | House Labor Committee, and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee; and |
9 | WHEREAS, As a strong voice for her constituency, Representative Fenton-Fung has |
10 | sponsored and supported myriad bills including legislation requiring all official mail ballots to |
11 | include a watermark for verification purposes, require women’s representation on boards of |
12 | publicly held corporations, continue the Rhode Island Hope Scholarship Pilot Program Act, |
13 | provide tax credits for family caregivers, repeal the corporation minimum tax, develop and |
14 | institute a Blue Envelope Program, establish family councils in managed residential communities |
15 | in providing assisted living services, permit licensed healthcare facilities to suspend visits of |
16 | persons who are verbally or physically berating staff or providing non-prescribed or illegal |
17 | medications to patients, require that a health club must stop automatic deductions from the |
18 | consumer’s account, and require Asian American history and culture be taught in schools, to |
19 | name but a few of her many efforts; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Highly respected, Representative Fenton-Fung was honored with the |
2 | National Woman of Excellence Award from the National Foundation of Women Legislators, was |
3 | selected for the 2021 Council of State Governments Eastern Leadership Fellowship, and has |
4 | served on the Providence Committee on Foreign Relations and the Cranston Substance Abuse |
5 | Task Force; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In addition to her long hours at the State House, she is currently employed |
7 | as a physical therapist by Lifespan, and is married to Allan Fung, the former Mayor of Cranston. |
8 | She received a Bachelor of Science degree in rehabilitation medicine from Northeastern |
9 | University, an emergency management certificate from Auburn University, a Master’s of Science |
10 | in physical therapy from Northeastern University, and a Master’s of Science in digital media |
11 | management from Arkansas State University; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Fenton-Fung's abiding leadership and outstanding services |
13 | on behalf of the citizens of Rhode Island will long be praised, and we know that in all her future |
14 | endeavors, she will continue to provide strong advocacy for all Rhode Islanders; now, therefore |
15 | be it |
16 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
17 | joins the family and many friends of Representative Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung in recognizing and |
18 | celebrating her inspirational career of service to the people of Rhode Island. We moreover, wish |
19 | her continued success, happiness and fulfillment; and be it further |
20 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
21 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung. |
