MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $20,000 TO THE RHODE ISLAND SAILING EVENTS | |

1 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State with approximately 400 miles of |
2 | shoreline, while Newport is known as the sailing capital of the world; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island was host to The Ocean Race North American Stopover, the |
4 | pinnacle event of the sport of ocean racing and many others, resulting in a positive impact to the |
5 | Rhode Island Economy; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Sailing Events Commission was created to identify, |
7 | evaluate, and provide recommendations to assist nationally and internationally recognized sailing |
8 | and marine events, both amateur and professional, and to attract and encourage activity in Rhode |
9 | Island and advise state and local leaders on the suitability and practicality of hosting qualified |
10 | marine events in the state; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated out of any money in the treasury not |
12 | otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2024-2025, the sum of twenty thousand dollars |
13 | ($20,000) to the Rhode Island Sailing Events Commission; and the state controller is hereby |
14 | authorized and directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, |
15 | or so much thereof as may be from time to time required upon receipt of properly authenticated |
16 | vouchers. |
