J O I N T   R E S O L U T I O N

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $500,000 TO THE RHODE ISLAND COALITION

AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV) is a

statewide organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. The RICADV was formed in 1979

to support and assist the agencies serving domestic violence victims and their families in Rhode

Island and to provide leadership on the issue. The organization strives to create justice for

survivors through policy and systems advocacy, and raises awareness about the issue of domestic

violence prevention; and

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a coalition of

member agencies that provide services, education, advocacy and prevention to victims and

communities affected by domestic violence; and

     WHEREAS, The Coalition envisions a society where domestic violence is not tolerated

because communities are enlightened and responsive to the needs of victims and their children

and focuses on policy, prevention, survivor activism, communications and training to achieve its

goal; and

     WHEREAS, The RICADV's member agencies provide a wide array of services for

victims, including emergency shelter, support groups, counseling services and assistance with the

legal system; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated out of any money in the treasury not

otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2024-2025, the sum of five hundred thousand dollars

($500,000) to the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, to bolster its efforts in

supporting the survivors of and the elimination of domestic violence statewide; and the controller

is hereby authorized and directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of

said sum, or so much thereof as may be from time to time required, upon receipt of properly

authorized vouchers.
