EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHARLES H. HOLDREDGE, III | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Charles |
2 | H. “Charlie” Holdredge III, of Westerly, the beloved husband of Jane Holdredge for 59 years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Charles Holdredge, III, was the son of Virginia and Charles Holdredge, II. |
4 | He graduated from Stonington High School where he excelled as an athlete in three sports, |
5 | football, basketball and baseball, and was also the Captain of the team. He later attended and |
6 | played football at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and later |
7 | graduated from Boston University with a degree in journalism; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Holdredge served our nation with honor and distinction as a member of |
9 | the United States Army’s 76th Infantry Division, where he earned the rank of Sergeant First |
10 | Class; and |
11 | WHEREAS, After completing college and fulfilling his military obligations, Mr. |
12 | Holdredge embarked on a highly successful 40 year career with the Electric Boat Division of |
13 | General Dynamics, working in the Radiological Control Office. He also worked for his family’s |
14 | business, Holdredge’s Garage and later, Holdredge Cottage and Rentals; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Charles Holdredge was a devoted family man and a pillar of the Westerly- |
16 | Stonington community. He was the President of the Westerly Sports Boosters and never missed a |
17 | sports or school function in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He was also a member of the |
18 | Rhode Island Reds Hockey Heritage Society, and the Rhode Island Chapter of the National |
19 | Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Westerly and |
20 | Stonington High School Hall of Fame, and the Providence Gridiron Hall of Fame, of which he |

1 | served as President; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Charles Holdredge was an active member of the Westerly Pawcatuck |
3 | Chamber of Commerce, the Westerly Yacht Club, the Westerly Lodge of Elks, and the Watch |
4 | Hill Fire Department, where he served for 65 years. He was a man of deep faith who served as an |
5 | usher for 40 years at St. Clare’s Church in Misquamicut; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Charles Holdredge, III, in addition to his wife, Jane, leaves behind his |
7 | children, Virginia Fabianski and her husband, David, and Brian Holdredge and his wife, Shannon. |
8 | He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Meghan, Hannah, and Matthew Fabianski, Maddie |
9 | Lewis and her husband Andrew, and Brady, Caelen, and Reagan Holdredge, and his step- |
10 | grandchildren, Arianna and Kayleigh Sullivan, and Jon Brutcher; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | expresses its condolences on the passing of Charles H. Holdredge, III; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jane Holdredge and Family. |
