CELEBRATING "URI DAY" AT THE RHODE ISLAND STATE HOUSE ON MARCH 21,

2024

     WHEREAS, The University of Rhode Island is the State’s flagship public research

2

university, offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional students distinctive educational

3

opportunities designed to meet the global challenges of today’s world, and the rapidly evolving

4

needs of tomorrow; and

5

     WHEREAS, Considered a major research University, URI offers educational, research,

6

outreach, and economic development programs that contribute significantly to the health and

7

vitality of our State. URI is a key driver of economic and workforce development in Rhode

8

Island. The University maintains strong and robust partnerships with many local, national, and

9

international companies in a variety of industries, including defense, manufacturing, agriculture,

10

aquaculture, and renewable energy, including offshore wind. URI also provides research expertise

11

and professional development opportunities to many corporate and community partners; and

12

     WHEREAS, With a network of campuses statewide and diverse and vibrant student body

13

representing more than 75 nations, URI offers more than 100 majors, including study abroad

14

courses, and myriad summer and honors programs; and

15

     WHEREAS, Faculty at the University are distinguished scholars and researchers whose

16

excellence and commitment to their students is unsurpassed; now, therefore be it

17

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

18

celebrates “URI Day” and thanks the University, faculty, and staff for the significant

19

contributions they provide to our State through education, research, and economic development

that improves the lives of all Rhode Islanders; and be it further

2

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

3

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the President of the University of Rhode Island,

4

Marc B. Parlange.
