H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CELEBRATING AND RECOGNIZING ADAMSVILLE'S THIRD ANNUAL "WORLD'S

SHORTEST ST. PADDY'S DAY PARADE"

     

     Introduced By: Representatives McGaw, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Kennedy, Donovan,
McNamara, Messier, Fogarty, McEntee, and Solomon

     WHEREAS, Beginning somewhat in jest, the Adamsville “World’s Shortest St. Paddy’s

2

Day Parade” is once again stepping down Main Street, for a very brief interlude, to the delight of

3

hundreds of residents from around the village and neighboring areas, in a short but festive display

4

of Irish fun, spirit and good humor; and

5

     WHEREAS, Beginning at 3pm, the old, young, and young-at-heart will gather on stone

6

walls and the roadside that borders the 89-foot procession route, in order to witness traditional

7

Irish dancers, the traditional fiddle band Scottish Fish, "The Governor's own" 88th Army Band, as

8

well as motorcycles and ponies, in this much anticipated celebration led by the Grand Marshalls,

9

Diane and David MacGregor; and

10

     WHEREAS, Following the parade, in what has grown into a day-long event, many

11

attendees settle in for a post-parade party with live music, an Irish corned beef and cabbage

12

dinner, and plenty of Guinness liberally flowing; and

13

     WHEREAS, In the true spirit of Irish generosity, monies generated from the event are

14

donated to food banks in Little Compton, Tiverton, Westport and Fall River; and with more than

15

$10,000 contributed in 2023, organizers are certain that this year’s amount will certainly set a

16

new record; now, therefore be it

17

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

18

recognizes and applauds Adamsville's “World’s Shortest St. Paddy’s Day Parade” and hopes for

19

many more decades of this wonderful celebration; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Chuck Kinnane, founder of the parade.
