H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF FAITH MITCHELL,

ANTHONY MOSCA, DANA CIFUENTES MOLINA, AND JULISSA DAVIS

Tanzi, Ajello, Edwards, and Bennett

     WHEREAS, It is fitting that this House recognizes those students who, through their

2

talents and unflagging commitment to excellence, have venerated themselves in academia, sports

3

and within their communities; and

4

     WHEREAS, Faith Mitchell has distinguished herself not only by being first in her class,

5

but also by the profundity of honors, awards, and extra-curricular participation she has accrued.

6

In addition to being the current Valedictorian of the Mt Pleasant Class of 2024, she is a member

7

of the RI and National Honor Societies, Captain of the Cheer team, a partner on the Unified

8

Basketball team, a member of the Cross Country and Outdoor Track and Field team, a member of

9

the Mt Pleasant Ski Club and the Student Advocate Council, as well as a Project Delegate, and a

10

member of Student Government. She previously served as a member of the Music Pathway, the

11

Tri-M Music Society, and the Mt Pleasant Chorus, and was on the first RI Band and Chorus team

12

to represent RI in the Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC. Her future is bright with promise

13

as she intends to study pre-med and has been accepted by Howard University, UMass Boston,

14

Georgia State University, RIC, URI, Bradely, and UConn; and

15

     WHEREAS, During his remarkable high school career, Anthony Mosca distinguished

16

himself as a well-rounded and multifaceted individual, combining academic excellence and

17

rigorous physical talents. He is currently the Salutatorian of the Mt Pleasant Class of 2024, and is

18

a member of both the RI and National Honor Societies, and is a QuestBridge Finalist. He is a

19

member of the Upward Bound program, the Mt Pleasant Teacher’s Academy, and of the Student

Advisory Council. In addition, he is Captain of the boys’ Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor

2

Track and Field Team, and is leader on both the Unified Basketball and Volleyball teams. As a

3

member of the Community Advisory Board and Mt Pleasant Redesign team, he has also

4

demonstrated his commitment to the Redesign of Mt Pleasant. In the fall, he intends to attend

5

Boston University where he has received a full four-year scholarship, in order to pursue a career

6

in teaching; and

7

     WHEREAS, No stranger to scholastic honors and accolades, Dana Cifuentes Molina’s

8

academic achievements include attaining a 4.0 GPA during her two years at Mt. Pleasant, after

9

emigrating from Guatemala. Over the past two years, she achieved one of the highest SAT

10

English and Math scores at the school and is a QuestBridge Finalist. She is also an active member

11

of the Ski club, National Honor Society, and Kilties Cares club, and altruistically volunteers her

12

time working with the elderly and helping with their basic needs. Through the National Honor

13

Society, she creatively produced a slideshow for a student-led advisory lesson on “It is okay not

14

to be Okay” aimed at raising mental health awareness. In the fall, she will attend Smith College

15

on a full four-year scholarship and intends to become a doctor; and

16

     WHEREAS, By demonstrating myriad exemplary qualities, and exhibiting a commitment

17

to scholastics that combined intellectual aptitude and ambition, Julissa Davis is currently ranked

18

number four in the Mt Pleasant Class of 2024. She is the captain of the Girls Cross Country,

19

Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Team and Ski Club, and is a leader on the Unified Basketball

20

and Volleyball teams. She is in the Mt Pleasant Teacher’s Academy, and is a member of both the

21

RI and National Honor Societies, a QuestBridge Finalist, and was employed at RI Hospital full-

22

time through Lifespan last summer. She currently works at Starbucks a few nights a week and on

23

weekends in order to support herself, as she currently resides with her very supportive and loving

24

grandparents. She previously earned the $10,000 Horatio Alger Scholarship and has received a

25

full four-year scholarship to attend Boston University, where she will major in Physical Therapy;

26

and

27

     WHEREAS, By virtue of their myriad accomplishments, Faith Mitchell, Anthony Mosca,

28

Dana Cifuentes Molina, and Julissa Davis serve as role models of academic excellence, personal

29

responsibility, and leadership, and we are certain that their futures will contain positive

30

contributions to their communities and our State; now, therefore be it

31

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

32

honors and congratulates Faith Mitchell, Anthony Mosca, Dana Cifuentes Molina, and Julissa

33

Davis, and extends our sincerest wishes for their continued success and for all the very best that

34

life has to offer; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Faith Mitchell, Anthony Mosca, Dana

3

Cifuentes Molina, and Julissa Davis.
