J O I N T   R E S O L U T I O N

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $60,000 TO THE RHODE ISLAND FIRE ACADEMY

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Noret, Casimiro, Casey, Edwards, Azzinaro, Shanley,
Spears, Corvese, Chippendale, and Fogarty

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island State Fire Academy provides basic and advanced training

2

programs and is accredited by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications;

3

and

4

     WHEREAS, The Fire Academy provides basic and advanced training in various

5

disciplines; and

6

     WHEREAS, Currently, fires caused by lithium-ion batteries are on the rise. Specialized

7

training is required to effectively and safely handle these types of fires; and

8

     WHEREAS, Funding is necessary for the purpose of training and certifying fifty full-

9

time firefighters from across the State, who would in turn, bring the skills necessary to extinguish

10

small to large lithium battery fires back to their districts and provide training for their entire

11

respective departments; now, therefore be it

12

     RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not

13

otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2024-2025, the sum of sixty thousand dollars ($60,000)

14

to the to the Rhode Island Fire Academy to provide the training required to effectively and safely

15

handle small to large lithium battery fires; and the state controller is hereby authorized and

16

directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, or so much

17

thereof as may be from time to time required, upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers.
