EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ARTHUR ROBBINS | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Arthur |
2 | Robbins, the beloved husband of Judith Robbins for 67 years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Arthur Robbins was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1932, a son of the |
4 | late Robert and Nancy Robbins; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins went to school in Woonsocket and later attended Wilbraham |
6 | and Monson Academy. He proceeded to graduate from the Wharton School/University of |
7 | Pennsylvania with a degree in economics and subsequently served our nation with distinction for |
8 | two years as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In 1957, after marrying Judy, the love of his life, he moved backed to |
10 | Woonsocket where he worked with his father in the manufacturing industry until he and his |
11 | family moved to Providence in 1969; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins was a highly successful entrepreneur and real estate developer |
13 | who was the Principal of Robbins Properties. He had a deep understanding of the hospitality |
14 | industry and under his guidance and direction, helped to create the Providence Marriott, the |
15 | Newport Marriott, and hotels and office buildings throughout the New England region; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins was immersed in civic affairs throughout his life. He served on |
17 | more than twenty civic and nonprofit boards and supported many Jewish and health related |
18 | organizations, including Hope Health, Butler Hospital, Textron Chamber of Commerce Academy, |
19 | Providence Convention and Visitors Bureau, Big Brothers of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island |
20 | Holocaust Museum. He received numerous honors and awards throughout his distinguished life, |

1 | and was a member of Temple Emanu-El; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Arthur Robbins was a devoted family man his entire life. In addition to his |
3 | wife, Judith, he leaves behind his children, Mark Robbins, Alisa Robbins Doctoroff and her |
4 | husband, Dan, and Carolyn Robbins Levine and her husband, Jim. He also leaves behind his |
5 | grandchildren Jacob, Ariel, Jenna, Noah, Ari, Jesse, Adina, and Caleb and his great-grandchildren |
6 | Lila and Naomi, and was the brother of the late Donald Robbins and his wife, Esther; now, |
7 | therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | expresses its condolences on the passing of Arthur Robbins; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Judith Robbins and Family. |
