EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF TERRENCE J. BOYLAN, | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Terrence J. |
2 | Boylan, Sr., the beloved husband of the late Virginia Boylan, who was the “love of his life”, and |
3 | the devoted father of Terrence Jr. and his wife, our friend and colleague, the Honorable Jennifer |
4 | Boylan, and the late Christopher Boylan. He was also the very proud grandfather of Terrence III |
5 | and Tanner; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mr. Boylan, affectionately known as Terry by his family and many friends, |
7 | was the son of the late James and Virginia Boylan. He spent his youth in Queens, New York |
8 | City, and began what would become a life filled with dedication to service and leadership; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation from St. John's University Mr. Boylan served our country |
10 | with honor in the United States Navy, serving as the Weapons Officer aboard the USS Cromwell |
11 | and USS DeLong; and |
12 | WHEREAS, During his years at the Naval Station in Newport, Mr. Boylan met and |
13 | married Virginia Mahoney at the Newport Naval Station Chapel. Their lives together began in |
14 | Barrington, as he was serving as the Principal of the Henry Barnard School in Providence; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Eventually, the Boylans moved to Marblehead, Massachusetts, when he |
16 | became the Principal of the Coffin and Gerry Elementary Schools, a position he held for nearly |
17 | three decades, and during which, he positively impacted the lives and futures of generations of |
18 | myriad young people; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Over the following seventeen years, Mr. Boylan made his home in |

1 | Barnstable on the Cape, where he put his programing skills to work for CapeAbilities. Upon |
2 | retiring, he returned to Barrington, to be closer to his son, daughter-in-law, and his grandchildren; |
3 | and |
4 | WHEREAS, Thoroughly enjoying his life, Mr. Boylan loved photography, teaching, and |
5 | the joyous tunes of the Bee Gees and Motown. He was also a devoted reader and a critical |
6 | thinker; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Terrence Boylan was a remarkable gentleman, who left a legacy of love, |
8 | service, and spirit, and he is dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to share his |
9 | remarkable life; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
11 | extends deepest condolences and sympathy on the passing of Terrence J. Boylan, Sr.; and be it |
12 | further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Terrence Boylan Jr. and the Honorable Jennifer |
15 | Boylan and Family. |
