EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF LETITIA MORRISON CARTER | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Letitia |
2 | Morrison Carter of Little Compton, the beloved wife of the late John S. Carter, Jr.; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Letitia Morrison Carter was an incredibly talented woman who strived |
4 | tirelessly to support her family, community, and numerous philanthropic organizations. She was a |
5 | kind woman with great wisdom whose leadership and creativity impacted positively the lives of |
6 | many people and charitable organizations; and |
7 | WHEREAS, When Mrs. Carter was supporting a project that was to the benefit of her |
8 | community and others, she worked relentlessly in support of that endeavor. She was one of the |
9 | founders who opened the Coggeshall Farm Museum in Bristol, later serving as its President and |
10 | was the founder of Fiber Co-op at the Slater Hill Historic Site in Pawtucket. One of Ms. Carter’s |
11 | major accomplishments took place when she, as the President of the Veterans Memorial |
12 | Auditorium, attained the financing for major remodeling in 1990, and as a result, secured the |
13 | return of the Rhode Island Philharmonic concerts; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Carter served our State as a Commissioner of the Convention Center |
15 | Authority, with particular responsibility as Chair of the Vets Foundation. She also served the |
16 | State and community she loved so much as a board member of the Community Preparatory |
17 | School for ten years, three years as Chair, as the Director for WRNI Public Radio, Planned |
18 | Parenthood, the Philharmonic, Rhode Island Mayoral Academies, and the Rhode Island |
19 | Philharmonic Music School. In all of these endeavors, she served with great passion and abiding |
20 | integrity; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Letitia Carter is survived by her children, Kathy Martinez and her husband, |
2 | Alex, John Carter and Nicole Peckham, Pamela Carter, and Elisabeth Carter, and her |
3 | grandchildren, Julia Martinez and her husband, David Moskowitz, Maggie Foote and her |
4 | husband, Eric, Johnny Carter and Liam Rowe. She also leaves behind her four great- |
5 | grandchildren, Cash and Falcon Foote, and Jonah and Zoe Moskowitz; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
7 | expresses its condolences on the passing of Letitia Morrison Carter; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Kathy Martinez, John Carter, Pamela Carter |
10 | and Elisabeth Carter. |
