HONORING AND THANKING LAURA MASON ZEISLER, M.ED, ON THE OCCASION OF | |

1 | WHEREAS, In 1977, to the very good fortune of many a Rhode Island child, Laura |
2 | Zeisler began attending meetings of the Permanent Commission on Child Care. At the time, she |
3 | was the President of the RI Association for the Education of Young Children; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In 1992, as Ms. Zeisler was beginning her tenure as Chair of the Diversity |
5 | Council for the New England Association for the Education of Young Children, she attended a |
6 | meeting of Latina early childhood educators at Wheelock College that expanded her |
7 | understanding of the vital importance that professional development, provided directly in |
8 | Spanish, was for native Spanish-speaking early childhood educators; and |
9 | WHEREAS, This knowledge and the need for this essential educational component, |
10 | fostered the desire for her to become an advocate for providing professional development in |
11 | Spanish in both Rhode Island as a whole and for all NEAEYC events; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Beginning in 2009, Ms. Zeisler became a representative on the Permanent |
13 | Commission on Child Care for Family Child Care Homes of RI, and served on the first |
14 | subcommittee to plan the initial Child Care Awareness Day at the State House; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Although she is regrettably retiring, Ms. Zeisler plans to maintain |
16 | connections with the early education and care community and will continue to advocate for |
17 | worthy wages for all early childhood educators. She also hopes that members of the Commission |
18 | on Child Care and Rhode Island’s educational leaders will continue to support direct Spanish |
19 | communication and education, as well as policies, licensing regulations, and funding which |

1 | reflect the particular needs of family child care educators; now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
3 | honors and thanks Laura Mason Zeisler for more than forty-six years of dedicated service to |
4 | young people and professional development in Spanish for early childhood and in all areas of |
5 | education in Rhode Island. We moreover wish her good health and much happiness during her |
6 | well-earned retirement; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Laura Mason Zeisler, M.Ed. |
